Garden Lites Spinach Souffle

Trying out the Spinach Souffle from Garden Lites! I dig spinach so it seemed like a good choice.

BY GOD, IT'S SO GREEN.

A couple bites in, I realized I didn't know what the hay a souffle was. I think I was imagining an omelet-y sort of thing but it was more like salty green dinosaur dung (which I guess I've never tried either). Spinach souffle, are you supposed to be this mushy in the middle? Why are you so green? WHAT ARE YOU?

It might have turned out better if I was eating this as a side dish. I just sort of ate it as a meal by itself, and it was a bit much. "Healthy" frozen foods haven't really been working out for me.

SCORE: dafuq.

Trader Joe's Shepherd's Pie

Another one from Trader Joe's BECAUSE SHEPHERD'S PIE<3

I decided to be fancy and cook this one in the oven. I did follow the directions, but perhaps I should've kept it in the oven a bit longer...? It was kinda watery-mushy and bland...

Can't shake the feeling that I messed this one up a little but OH WELL. Maybe I'll revisit this one again some day. Or maybe I'll just stick to ordering Shepherd's Pies at restaurants because maybe our relationship is healthier with some distance between us. I don't know, it's complicated.

SCORE: FAIL. For now.

Trader Joe's Reduced Guilt Mac & Cheese

I loooooooove Trader Joe's. They have the best stuff ever, like this here "Reduced Guilt Mac & Cheese". It's cheap, easy to make, and tastes oh so good.

Add a pinch of salt and/or pepper and it is the most perfect thing a mac and cheese lover could ask for. A good one to have stocked in your freezer to satisfy those sudden uncontrollable mac and cheese cravings.

SCORE: 2 stars. I love you Trader Joe's mac and cheese. You are always welcome in mah belleh.

Pumpkin Squash Ravioli

I tried another one of the Healthy Choice brand meals. My experience with that gross portabella spinach parmesan was mildly traumatizing, so I went into this with SUPER low expectations.

Short story short, it was like ravioli with pumpkin pie in it. And let's face it guys, that's kinda awkward.

I really really want to like you Healthy Choice. Your packaging is so pretty and your microwaving directions are so amazingly simple. I think your flavoring is just too fancy for me.

I'm going to have to say no on this one as well.

SCORE: AWKWARD

The Mermaid's Mac and Cheese

I went to a restaurant/bar in Hermosa Beach called The Mermaid. Ordered a side of mac and cheese because that's how I roll.

It was pretty huge. I personally wouldn't have listed this under sides, but whatever I'm not hatin'. Nothing fancy, just some macs and cheeses hanging out and having a good time.

SCORE: 2 STARS. Cheers to decent mac and cheese.

Stouffer's Fish Filet

Stouffer's pleasantly surprised me with their cheesy mac and cheese, so the other day I decided to try out another one of their meals. I choose YOU fish filet!!! Because you're half mac and cheese and that means something to me.

Same cheesy mac and cheese, and the filet was not so shabby either. It was even a little crispy.

SCORE: 2 STARS. I think I'm falling for you Stouffer's. Are you for real?

IHOP Mac and Cheese

I thought of mac and cheese while at IHOP the other day. Does the International House of Pancakes have mac and cheese on their menu?

Why yes, yes they do. Kraft mac and cheese in the kid's section, "served with fresh fruit" (about $5).

It tasted exactly how I thought it would taste. I know Kraft mac and cheese. That's all I ate during my dorming days in college. Nothing to get all worked up over.

SCORE: SILLY MONKEY, IHOP IS FOR PANCAKES

Stouffer's Mac & Cheese

Today for lunch I decided to be exciting and try a brand of mac n cheese I'd never had before. Stouffer's macaroni & cheese. "100% REAL Cheddar Cheese" it boasts. It made me ponder the existence of fake cheese for a few seconds, but I moved on!

Unfortunately for lazy me, it was one of those cook a little then stir then cook some more type of deals. SIGH #firstworldproblems

And the verdict. SUUUUPER CHEESY! The macs were drownin' in cheese!! And you know what, it was actually pretty darn good. Tasty cheese, non-smushy mac, and overall a good basic mac n cheese. I would totally hit this again.

SCORE:  2 STARS says I'd put you on my go-to mac n cheese list if I had such a thing!! Good stuff.

Portabella Spinach Parmesan

My lunch yesterday:

I'm a sucker for the frozen food boxes that like to show off how healthy they are, so I decided to try this guy out yesterday.

High marks for the simple cooking instructions. Just throw in the microwave for 4.5~5 minutes. None of that cook for 2 minutes then stir then add 2 drops of unicorn tears and put the cover back on to cook for 3 minutes nonsense. The packaging was also quite modern.

Too bad it was kinda gross. The pasta was all mushy and the cheese got stuck to my teeth. Didn't care too much for the flavor either.

SCORE: NO

The Birthday Mac and Cheese

My friend made me some mac and cheese for my birthday and holy cow it was crazy good!!! It was like a mac and cheese quiche, with all the macs and cheeses suspended in a glorious egg mattress. Mac! and cheese!! AND EGGS!!! Pure genius. Friend, you have been elevated to mac and cheese god status. Thank you so much for this amazing birthday present!

I managed to get this one crappy picture before getting caught up in epic eating.

Score: 3 FULL STARS I BOW DOWN TO YOU MAC AND CHEESE GOD
